At Growth By Design, we believe intentional choices lead to impactful growth, whether you're shaping a thriving organization or a meaningful life. Here, we provide the practical information, tools, and frameworks to get you there. Whether you’re leading a thriving business or building a purposeful life, the ability to pause, reflect, and reset is your most strategic advantage. Today, let’s talk about the power of a mid-year reset - and why now is the perfect time to pause, reflect, and realign.
Six months. That’s what’s left in the year. Six months to keep building on your wins, to learn from your misses, to pivot where needed, and to approach your goals with fresh energy. My question to you is: What are you going to keep doing? What are you going to do differently?
Why a Mid-Year Reset Is a Leadership Imperative
Intentional reflection is the leader’s secret weapon for sustained progress. In business and in life, it’s easy to get lost in daily demands. But growth happens when we pause, zoom out, and ask: Are we moving toward what matters most? When I pause to ask myself this question, I am quickly confronted with the things I’ve allowed to distract me which detract from my ability to make progress toward the things I most want to achieve.
A mid-year reset isn’t a luxury – it’s a proven strategy for organizational and personal success.
Only 8% of people achieve their annual goals, with most losing momentum by February. The halfway point in the year is more than a calendar milestone – it’s a strategic leadership opportunity. Its not just you and your team who is losing sight of the bigger vision – it is also your competitors. Renewing your alignment to your goals provides you with a strategic advantage.
With six months left, the question isn’t just “What will you finish?” but “How will you finish strong?”
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.“
– Robert Collier
Five Steps to Sustainable Goal Setting
To lead effectively, goal renewal must be a recurring ritual – not a once-a-year event. Changing our behavior to reach new goals requires continuous re-commitment. Drawing from my PhD research on the Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change, I want to share with you a simple framework for you to lead yourself and your team toward a stronger second half of this year:
- Reflect (Precontemplation & Contemplation):
Honest reflection builds trust and clarity. Evaluate what’s working and what’s not – personally and organizationally. What habits or strategies have helped – or hindered – your progress so far? - Clarify (Preparation):
Specific, meaningful goals drive engagement. Refine your goals. Are they still relevant and inspiring? Do they still make sense? - Act (Action):
Small, visible wins create momentum. Identify one or two high-impact behaviors to start or stop immediately. Start small – consistent action beats grand intentions. - Monitor (Maintenance):
Accountability accelerates achievement. Schedule regular progress reviews – weekly or monthly. Here you not only renew energy toward the goals, but you afford yourself the ability to learn and pivot more quickly. - Adjust (Relapse & Recycling):
Resilient leaders adapt, learn, and recommit. Normalize setbacks. See them as data to learn from, not defeat.
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
– James Clear
When you systemize your goals, you achieve greater outcomes. Here are a few things you can do today to get you and your team back on track for an exceptional second-half.

Let’s Make the Next Six Months Count
So friends, as we move into the second half of the year, remember: The most successful leaders aren’t those who never stumble, but those who reset, refocus, and rise again.
The next six months are a blank canvas. How will you lead your organization – and yourself – toward meaningful, measurable growth?
Onward and upward!
Katie
